Aremis (Vega II)

Aremis is a terrestrial planet in the Vega system, [United Empire of Earth (UEE)](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/VyvyKxy4v6-united-empire-of-earth). It is famed for its set of rings, which are sharply defined by two shepherd moons that orbit the planet on the ring's inner and outer sides. After being minimally [terraformed](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/V3qgj8vjnj-terraforming), it was initially settled only by the military to house [Army](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/RxnX5JOZ7Q-uee-army), [Navy](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/RPDvKOpdP4-uee-navy), and [Marine](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/V7d5ZYEr1a-uee-marines) bases. Vega II's population expanded in SEY 2737 when refugees fleeing the Vanduul flooded the system after the [Fall of Virgil](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/box5moyeoZ-fall-of-virgil). Over the next two centuries, the population steadily rose and the planet was on track for recognition as of 2945. The [Senate](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/VaZn8OqaNZ-senate) formally recognized Aremis in late 2945, one month after the planet was attacked by the [Vanduul](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/VpGPp92gdO-vanduul) in the [Battle of Vega II](https://robertsspaceindustries.com/galactapedia/article/0Gz5mkprmg-battle-of-vega-ii).

Today, while it is still not fully recovered from the attack, Aremis has both a strong military presence and a growing population of native-born civilians and descendants of refugees.
